Special Projects
Luna Rossa Team
Representing the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia for the first time, Luna Rossa will compete in Naples in its seventh America’s Cup campaign.
Technology
Led by Max Sirena, now the team’s CEO, Luna Rossa races aboard the AC75 Luna Rossa, a monohull approximately 21 meters long equipped with foils. Compared to the previous edition, the yacht has been extensively upgraded and optimized to deliver even higher performance. The lateral appendages (foils) allow the hull to lift above the water, reducing drag and resistance while enabling extremely high speeds.
Team
On board the AC75, the crew consists of five sailors, including, for the first time, at least one woman. A sixth figure, the “guest racer,” is also planned, without an operational role. Beyond their duties at sea, each sailor also holds a land-based role, working closely with a specific department—an organizational structure that strengthens team spirit and fosters a comprehensive understanding of the boat. Alongside the AC75 crew, Luna Rossa also includes youth and women’s teams competing in the Youth America’s Cup and the Women’s America’s Cup respectively.

History
The Luna Rossa team was founded in Milan in February 1997, born from the meeting between entrepreneur Patrizio Bertelli and Argentine yacht designer Germán Frers, with the goal of competing in the 30th America’s Cup—the oldest trophy in the history of sport and the pinnacle of sailing competition, long contested on both sporting and technological fronts. Since its inception, Luna Rossa has taken part in six editions of the America’s Cup. The 2027 edition marks its seventh campaign, a milestone that makes it the longest-standing challenger in the history of the competition.
